1994 – Current    LAFARGE SA. The world leader in construction materials.  Valued at over €20 Billion, operating in 90 countries .

2007 -  Current    REGIONAL PRESIDENT Northern &Central Europe ( Aggregates &Concrete Division) & CHAIRMAN Lafarge Aggregates Ltd. A member of Aggregates & Concrete Global Excom ( €5 Billion T/O)

·          Fully responsible for operations and development in 10 countries with turnover at over    €1.4 B, some 550 operational units and 5000 employees managed through 5 M D’s and a Regional Functional team.   

·          Optimised short term performance whilst established strong positions in key markets for long term growth.

·          Entry into new markets in Balklan coutries,Ukraine and Russia

·          Drove Health & Safety culture consistently across the Region

·          Developed, coached and mentored talented managers to become high potential leaders

·          Performed an ambassadorial role across the Industry in the UK

2002 – 2007         MANAGING DIRECTOR.  Direct responsibility and accountability for T/O £500M/a. 200 operational units, 2.500 employees.

§          Responsible for the strategic direction and performance improvement of an integrated multi product business with 8 reporting directors.

§          Drive reconfiguration and performance improvement through value based management, international process in best practice sharing and performance enhancement.

§          Implemented a Customer orientated culture.

§          Balance core business strategic objectives with growing new opportunities

§          Experience of working with multi national in-house teams and consultants.

§          Transferred 4 offices into 1 central location for all backroom and service centre facilities.

1997 – 2002         CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER/DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR

§          Responsible for the operational activities of the core business run by 6 Regional General Managers and 2 National Product Directors.

§          Implemented Processes and a change management programmers to drive performance improvement (overall improvement of 50% in EBIT over period) Developed business by acquisitions, asset swaps and organic growth.

1994 – 2002         REGIONAL DIRECTOR T/O £130M, 75 operational units, 1000 employees

§          Rationalised the business, set up a major customer service centre and a more outward facing culture.

§          Representative on the boards of 6 joint venture/consortium companies

§          Improved both cash and profit by 30% in 2 years against difficult market conditions.

1989 – 1994         UK WASTE MANGEMENT LTD. Collection, transport and disposal of waste from                                                 public and private sector, a subsidiary of Waste Management Inc and Wessex                                                       Water PLC, until 1993 part of NFC plc,  a leading distribution and logistics                                                                     company.

1989 – 1994         VICE PRESIDENT / DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR T/O £100 million, 1400                                                           employees, 870 vehicles

§          Following acquisition promoted to be responsible for merging two major companies and for acquisitions, development and growth, targeted synergy benefits achieved in 6 months.

§          Successfully negotiated 10 acquisitions in 14 month.

§          Negotiated major long term contracts e.g. Greater Manchester Waste, value £250 million.

§          Completed and operated Joint Ventures with private landowners, Local Authorities and PLC companies including one in Hong Kong.

1984 – 1989         Director Operations and Development

§          Developed business from a greenfield in a new geographical area.

§          Introduced company to privatisation of Local Authority Sector.

1982 – 1984         Development Manager

§          Implemented a professional management system for technical and development management.

§          Worked on JIT retail distribution projects.

1980 – 1982         Cheshire County Council – Principal Officer

§          Implementation of new system for granting permits and consents.

§          Developed two of the council facilities and generated income of £3 million/annum.

1975 – 1982         Water Industry (Welsh and North West)

§          Worked on special projects implementing new legislation
